Las Vegas & the Mojave 5-Day Mountain Biking Adventure Tour
This week-long adventure tour features 73 miles of mountain biking over five full days of activity, with a number of strenuous climbs and many exciting descents. Much of this cross-country riding occurs on singletrack or jeep roads around the fiery landscape of the Mojave Desert region. In addition, this tour travels through key historical sites of the Old West. Due to the climbing involved at elevation, a high level of fitness is required for this tour. Because of the technical nature of some of the terrain, a Sport or Intermediate mountain biking level or higher is recommended for this tour. This tour also includes six nights of inn stays, with four nights in the Las Vegas area and two nights in Death Valley National Park, two meals per day of activity, other guest rider support, and round-trip transportation from the San Francisco Bay Area to Las Vegas and to the trailheads.

Pre-Tour Day, Saturday - San Francisco Bay Area Some guests choose to arrive into the Bay Area and drive with our crew to and from the Las Vegas area. If you choose to travel in this manner, you should arrive in the San Francisco Bay Area by the Saturday before the Mojave MTB crew leaves for Las Vegas. Although your Saturday night's stay is not included in this adventure tour, we prefer that you stay near our San Anselmo embarkation point and can book a separate reservation at a nearby motor inn for you. Guest who travel in this manner tend to ride back with us on Day 7, the following Saturday. The night's stay is also not included in this tour, however again we can assist you with a separate reservation at a nearby motor inn. Although one could fly home from Las Vegas at the conclusion of the tour, often one can get a better travel rate by using round-trip transportation to and from the Bay Area. Please visit our Guest Services Center, which should address your questions concerning Travel, Shipping Your Bike, Renting a Bike, and Ground Transportation to our San Anselmo embarkation point. At this time there is no additional charge for guests that partake in our round-trip van transportation from San Anselmo to Las Vegas and back. However, meals on the Day 1 and Day 7 driving periods are not included with the tour.
Day 1, Sunday - Las Vegas, NV We begin this adventure tour by departing from our Home Office in San Anselmo, CA by early-to-mid- morning. We should arrive at our Las Vegas accommodations by mid-to-later-evening. Other guests fly into Las Vegas and take either a shuttle or taxi to the Las Vegas lodging. As soon as we have our minimum guest participation for this tour, we will confirm the precise location of all accommodations with you and how to arrive there from McCarran International Airport.
Day 2, Monday – Mustang Trails Loop through Blue Diamond in Red Rock Canyon After our first night's stay in Las Vegas, we take a short drive west of the Strip to the southern section of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Red Rock Canyon's rock formations are composed of stark, contrasting layers of red sandstone and gray limestone. In Cottonwood Valley, we will be riding on the rolling singletrack of the Mustang Trails Loop, a clockwise loop that runs north of Hwy. 160 and contains much of the Landmine Loop (see Map). As we approach Blue Diamond on the eastern-most point of this loop, we will make a left to briefly ride northbound to Spring Mountain Ranch State Park and take a brief rest. German actress Vera Krupp, known for her Krupp Diamond, resided at this ranch at the base of the Wilson Cliffs from 1955 to 1967. In 1967 she sold Spring Mountain Ranch to Howard Hughes. At the conclusion of this ride, we return to Las Vegas and spend our second of four nights stay there. 14 miles of mountain biking, with numerous singletrack climbs and descents
Day 3, Tuesday – Point-to-Point from Rhyolite, NV to Leadfield, CA through Titus Canyon By early-to-mid morning, we leave Las Vegas for the next two days and drive to Rhyolite, NV, an old, deserted mining town. After hiking around the old ruins as a warmup, we begin our point-to-point ride into Death Valley National Park. After a long, strenuous climb up to Red Pass, we descend down to Leadfield, CA, a former, minor, gold-producing site. A number of old, abandoned buildings remain at Leadfield to this day. Then, we continue with a gradual descent through the fairly narrow and high-walled Titus Canyon. At the conclusion of this ride, we drive to the resort at Stovepipe Wells, CA, where we will stay for two nights. 15 miles of mountain biking, with a major climb and world-class descent
Day 4, Wednesday – Out-and-Back to Chloride City and the Chloride Cliffs in Death Valley By mid-to-later morning, we drive east from Stovepipe Wells to the Chloride City jeep road. It is on this rugged 4WD road through the Funeral Mountains that we will ride to Chloride City and the Chloride Cliffs. Although only a few abandoned buildings remain at Chloride City, the site offers spectacular views of both the Amargosa Range and Panamint Range. 16 miles of mountain biking, with a number of strenuous climbs and many thrilling descents
Day 5, Thursday – Dinosaur Teeth Loop through Badger Pass in Red Rock Canyon By mid-to-later morning, we will leave Stovepipe Wells and drive back to Cottonwood Valley in Red Rock Canyon. For the next two days, we will ride mostly on the sections of Cottonwood Valley that lie south of Hwy. 160. Today, we ride Dinosaur Teeth, which is also known as the Badger Pass Loop as shown on the Cottonwood Valley map. This ride features a gradual, singletrack climb up to Badger Pass. It continues with a short, steep climb up to the heights above the pass and is followed by a technical descent back towards Hwy. 160. To add some mileage, we finish the day by riding the Late Night Beginner Loop, which offers additional, rolling singletrack on the northside of Hwy. 160. We stay back in Las Vegas for these last two nights of the tour. 14 miles of mountain biking, with many strenuous climbs and thrilling descents
Day 6, Friday – Dead Horse Loop through Wilson Tank Overlook in Red Rock Canyon On our final day of riding, we perform the Dead Horse Loop which is one of the original NORBA race routes in Red Rock Canyon. This ride begins with a gradually steepening, singletrack climb above and to the southwest of Hwy. 160. It then features rolling singletrack through the foothills of Toiyabe National Forest. Then we climb up to the Wilson Tank overlook, where we can see Las Vegas to the northeast 25 miles away. As we return towards Hwy. 160, we descend for a number of miles through Red Valley. 14 miles of mountain biking, with 3 strenuous climbs and 3 thrilling descents
Day 7, Saturday – Depart from Las Vegas to Return Home On Day 7, some of our guest will fly back home from Las Vegas. Other guest will be driving back to the San Francisco Bay Area with our crew. We hope to leave Las Vegas by early-to-mid morning and may drive through Death Valley on our way home. If time permits, we may do a short ride or hike in Death Valley before we leave the Mojave Desert region.
